London 2012 Olympics Logo A Huge Flop (In My Opinion)
Yes, I am not showing the whole logo because that's more than enough to know that this logo is BAD! Created by
Wolff Olins, a design industry behemoth, I would have expected a much better interpretation. Olins firm branded the 2012 Olympics as Everyone's Olympics. If he means everyones, like anyone could have come up with a better logo than this one, than they hit it on the mark. Especially at a price tag of nearly $800,000 (yes, there are 5 zeros in that number) I would have been happier with just a 2012 in Comic Sans over the one they were paid for. (Ok, I am getting a little out of control, I would never want to see comic sans as an Olympic logo, or any logo, for that matter, but you get my point.)
Needless to say, our firm could have come up with something much more stylish and representative of a worldwide event for far less than that. (Olympic committee, if you are reading this, we are up to the challenge if you want to give it a try.)

Plugin Props
I am working on a web project right now, and I wanted to post about a plugin I am using from
tenterhooks. It is the
WordPress Menu plugin, and it, along with the "tech support" I have received from the creator, Sheri, has been simply awesome. Thanks Sheri for all your help!

DNA Art
Art and science come together beautifully in the custom
DNA art from MoMA. "A kit is provided to collect a painless saliva sample using a cotton-tip swab, which is sent to a secure certified lab for processing. The result is a piece that can never be replicated and is as unique as you—no two prints will ever be the same."

MoMA store web site.

Alive Logo to Be Featured in LogoLounge Volume IV
Yesterday we received some exciting news that the
"Alive" logo we designed for St. Paul United Methodist's youth group in Pensacola, Florida was selected to be featured in
LogoLounge Volume IV. This is a great honor for us to have recognition in a nationally (and maybe internationally) published book which will be used as a reference by designers and students for years to come.

Turning 20!
There aren't many design firms today that can still claim they have been around for 20 years, but we can. Pulse Creative Partners began it's life as Bean Graphics in May of 1987. Our original founder, Sam Bean, started the business as a slide presentation company and built it into a full service design firm over 17 years. In June of 2004, Stefan Bean, joined the company as a designer and then in January of 2007, purchased the company and formed Pulse Creative Partners. Through transitions and evolutions, we have become every bit of the company Sam Bean had originally envisioned and more.
Thank you to all of our clients, past and present, for helping us achieve 20 great years of design. With your help, and our intention to continue to serve you with excellent branding and design, we will be able to see another 20 years.

Everyone Has A Story at Rosa Loves
Not only does
Rosa Loves design great shirts, but the profits from shirt sales go directly to helping a person, family, or community in need. The design on the shirt is specific to the story, and even better, the story itself is printed on the inside of the shirt.
I purchased the shirt "
Indo Made" which depicts the story of a fisherman in Indonesia, named Made ("mah-day"). The goal is for Rosa Loves to sell enough shirts to buy a boat for Made. Once the need is met, the guys at Rosa Love will stop printing and selling this design. So pick up a shirt of your own, or check out some of the
other t-shirts and the stories behind them.

Digg in Hot Water
Digg.com is stuck between a rock and hard place. Legal action may be taken against this company for allowing stories that contain a single 32-digit code that lets people crack HD-DVD copyright protection. Which raises the question: As Web 2.0 sites become more prevalent, where do you draw the line on what is allowed?

Our Earth Day Resolution: To Be More Green
We are in the midst of a lot of changes around here. In January, we changed
our name. Currently, we are undergoing some major changes to
our space.
Every day at Pulse Creative Partners, we strive to make an impact. However, our newest resolution is to make less of an impact. In honor of Earth Month and the world around us, Pulse Creative Partners has decided to reduce our ecological footprint and encourage those around us to do the same.
In addition to evaluating each and every project we work on to determine the best use of resources, we will also be making some changes in the way we use and reuse materials here at work.
Below is a list of some of the small changes we have resolved to implement at our office, and we ask you to consider which of these actions you can start doing at your workplace or at home.
- Recycling any materials we can.
- Printing less, and double-sided when possible.
- Turning off our computers, and unplugging them whenever possible.
- Turning off lights when leaving rooms.
- Using recycled paper products.
- Using environmentally-friendly cleaning supplies.
We will continue to make changes in an effort to be more “green”, and will be sure to keep you updated on our progress. In the meantime,
we would love to hear about what your workplace is doing to reduce your impact on the environment as we post tips for others on our site.
